The GP Unique
It's difficult to find a more stylish hatchback than the GP Unique. It has big intakes, arch extensions and a two-part rear wing that's the kind of features typically reserved for glitzy French unicorns.
It's a good thing that it doesn't just look mean. It also feels fast. The engine is smooth and powerful, its 332lb ft of torque delivering with minimal effort from a speed of just 1,750rpm, and it's well-matched to the quick-shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox. Mini is very focused on lap times, and it's unfortunate that the GP Unique does not have an automatic transmission.
There are some flaws. The GP Unique's passive suspension is firm but it's not a lot of fun. If you drive straight and smooth B road, you can easily work the chassis's limits of dynamic, but it's difficult to remain fluid with your inputs. The front end gets somewhat snatchy, and the car struggles to keep its course when it's under the pressure of irregular British bumps.
Fortunately the GP Unique's handling is superb once you dial it in. Its emphatic front end and body control are redolent of the JCW race car we drove last year. It's an absolute pleasure to drive on a slippery road, and especially when you're in a determined mood.
The car's chassis also feels different from the regular MT-09 due to the fact that it has more torsional stiffness and larger axles. The new GP features 24.7 degrees of rake and 108mm trail, which feels a lot more on the front than the R6's - but it also translates into incredible stability in corners.
The PO Generator module is a great feature of GP. It lets you take a look at your on hand quantities and min/max levels you've set for each item, and any open POs from your vendors (ie more inventory is coming in) and then creates an order list of purchase orders suggested that you can then send to your suppliers.
The GP 500
The GP 500 is Airoh's lightest GP helmet to date - aiding in reducing neck strain and fatigue as well as improving safety by reducing the stress on the shoulders of the wearer. In terms of accuracy of the color, it was very close to perfection with an DeltaE error of just 2.3 which is extremely good. It also exhibited superb grayscale performance with clean and distinct shades. The GP500 displayed subtle rainbow colors while watching the Adam Project. These were very visible, however they were not distracting and did not affect the viewing experience.
The sound quality is also remarkable. The GP500 comes with an independent DSP chip onboard with treVolo psychoacoustic tuning that creates 3D audio effects. It uses an internal quad-speaker layout, which is positioned in each corner of the cabinet. This is designed to create a sound field that is awe-inspiring for every person, regardless of where they are seated within the room.
There are a variety of connectivity options with HDMI inputs 1, 2, and 3 and an optical Toslink SPDIF port to transmit native Dolby Atmos bitstreams to an external sound bar. The GP500 has two Type-A USB 2.0 port for streaming content. It also supports a 12-volt screen trigger.
